INTRODUCTION

The course offers an introduction to the theoretical, conceptual, and technical aspects and is structured around two main themes: Traces in Time and Reveal and Conceal. The assignments are designed to incorporate the work from the ARCS1005 Drawing course which is used as a basis to introduce and put into practice a variety of techniques such as digital photography, Photoshop, Illustrator, and videos that lead to creative transformations.

COURSE THEME & FORMAT

Students will learn how to change original artifacts from one medium to another using a variety of processes. Through these processes they will exercise their imagination to go beyond the given material and realize the dreams and potentialities that each student finds in the original medium.

The six assignments are conceived to stimulate students’ thoughts and dreams and to represent things metaphorically and challenge and question the limitations of the digital and analogue realms.  Students will be expected to produce a creative fusion that involves personal engagement, curiosity and a vision of latent possibilities. This transformational process throughout the semester aims to equip the students as future architects with creative insight

COURSE OBJECTIVES

1. To demonstrate proficiency in assigned media and techniques.

2. To explore procedures of multiple ‘transformation’ in order to creatively develop and execute the themes of the assignments.

3. To consistently produce photographs, collages (digital and analogue), writings and models which are thoughtfully constructed and completed.

4. To develop a foundation for architectural-multimedia literacy: visual, verbal, and written.
